What is tea?

Here at Leafy Bean, we are obsessed with making the perfect cuppa! Whether you are a fan of green tea, black tea or even rooibos, we are dedicated to making sure you reap the benefits of this staple beverage.

Tea is simply a hot, aromatic drink made from pouring hot water over dried, cured leaves. The humble tea evolved from a Chinese infusion to life the spirits to become the UK’s number one favourite hot beverage. In fact, it is the most consumed drink in the world after water!

5 Things to consider- tips & tricks

The art of brewing the perfect cup of tea is not something we at Leafy Bean take lightly. Before you can get started, you need to consider these five things:

  1. Time

The time you take to brew your cuppa is really down to you. However, it can make all the difference in taste. For a stronger flavour, you want to increase your brew time. In the same way, if you fancy a milder beverage, simply shorten your brew time. We recommend that you brew your cups of tea for between 2 and 4 minutes (depending on the strength that you prefer).

  1. Temperature

Keep it hot, hot, hot! Unless you are making iced tea (why not try it with Life is Peachy), you want your water to be scorching.

  1. Teabags

Here at Leafy Bean, our tea bags are packed full of flavour! We recommend sticking to one teabag per cup. And do not judge your tea by its colour (or a book by its cover). Colour develops faster than actual flavour. The only thing that will determine the potency of your tea’s flavour is time. So, as we like to say here at Leafy Bean – ‘Breathe, Relax, Enjoy’.

  1. Loose tea

If you are part of the loose tea crew, then we can only assume that you are equipped with a start of the art tea strainer! We recommend only 1 to 2 teaspoons of loose tea into your strainer for the ultimate brew.

Or better yet, why not check out our video here on how to brew your tea!

  1. Additives

Orange and chocolate. Strawberries and cream. Peanut butter and jam.

Just like any ultimate pairing, tea can also be enhanced with milk or sugar. And whichever you choose is totally up to you!

Quick tip: to prevent your tea from heating the milk (as opposed to your milk cooling your tea), we recommend adding the milk into your mug before pouring in your hot tea.
